Meet Michelle Peterkin-Walker
I’m the founder of LADFN (Liverpool African Diasporic Film Network). The Liverpool African Diasporic Filmmakers Network is a collective of filmmakers, and other creatives (writers, actors, singers, dancers, wellbeing healers, visual artists, performers, historians et al) from the African Diaspora that incorporate black identity in their work.
Our aim is to connect Creative Black Communities in Liverpool, focusing on Practitioners who use film in their practice.
Through collaborative ventures with filmmakers of African ancestry, we aim to enhance the Black creative presence in the city.
My Why
I started the LADFN because I was inspired by the young creative Black filmmakers Ellis Thompson and Amber Akaunu.
A range of Black creatives converged at their film screening event and we struggled to make time to connect, talk, share our current work and explore ideas. So, I decided to create a forum for us to meet up, share, network, signpost, create etc. I'm really proud I've be able to connect Black creative practitioners, from various disciplines, in Liverpool.
