ABOUT
US
The Liverpool African Diasporic Filmmakers Network is a collective of filmmakers from the African Diaspora that centre black identity in their work. Liverpool with a history of diversity, protest, slavery and incredible cultural production acts as a point of departure to engage the many facets of our identities. We intend to offer: educational support to Black Liverpool filmmakers through workshops with industry professionals and opportunities to skill share technical skills; Discussions about individual work where feedback may be offered; Opportunities to get involved in other members’ film projects and gain hands on experience/ work opportunities; Opportunities to produce work through regular commissions; Opportunities to show work through network meetings, film festivals and screenings; Collectivity that provides foundational support to cultivate ideas and imaginings.
Through bringing filmmakers of African descent together we hope to create a black creative presence in the city. We currently have 32 members of the collective with a variety of expertise. As the network grows we are also recognising the opportunity for intergenerational support and connection in Liverpool and how this may affect African Diasporic communities in Liverpool as a whole.
